Governors work as a team. They are responsible for making sure the school provides a good quality education for all pupils. Raising educational standards in school is a key priority. This has the best chance of happening when there are high expectations of what pupils can achieve.
Governors promote effective ways of teaching and learning when setting the school aims and policies. They do this together with the head teacher, who is responsible for the day-to-day management of the school.
Governing boards are accountable to parents, the local community and the Local Authority or the Trustees. Appointments are for three or usually four years. The governing body’s main role is to help raise pupils’ standards of achievement.

The Governing Board is accountable for the performance of the school to parents and the wider community, plans the school’s future direction,and makes decisions on the school’s budget and staffing including the performance management policy. The Board makes sure the agreed Curriculum is well taught and decides how the school can encourage pupils’ spiritual, moral and cultural development within a Christian environment.It also makes sure the school provides for all pupils including those with special needs.

Governor’s Christian Values are evident in all our relationships in school and are formally recognised by the award of our new Christian Values Champions each week at family worship each Friday. We aim to use our distinctive Christian Values to encourage a culture where everyone is included, secure, valued and nurtured and where we all learn to show our values to others.

Governors are at the heart of how a school operates. It’s important they get things right. How they do their job effects the interests of pupils, staff and the reputation of the school in the community. Governors support and challenge head teachers by gathering views, asking questions and discussing what’s best for the school. They are not there to rubber stamp decisions. They have to be prepared to give and take advice and must be loyal to decisions taken by the governing board as a whole. As long as they act within the law and take appropriate advice, governors are protected from any financial liability for the decisions they take.

How Can Parents Express Ideas or Concerns To The Board of Governors ?

If a parent wishes to know more about the role of a governor , any member of the Board of Governors would be happy to answer this question.

If a parent wishes to express an idea or concern about the school as a whole, then this is a matter for the full Board of Governors, not the responsibility of individual governors. If the need arises please write down your idea/concern, place it in an envelope addressed to Mr Bellamy (Chair of Governors ) and hand it in to the school office. These matters can then be dealt with collectively at the next full Board of Governors meeting.

Please note – the Board of Governors is responsible for the school as a whole. Any issues a parent may have about their child must be dealt with via the class teacher and head teacher. The full Board of Governors meets once a term unless it is necessary to hold an extraordinary meeting. Various aspects of the work are conducted by committees. We try as much as possible to ensure that governors with specific skills sit on committees that can benefit from their talents. All committees must be quorate to be able to make decisions.
