Art and Design

INTENT

At St Barnabas and St Helena’s Federation, we strive to unlock every child’s potential, giving them the opportunity to flourish. In Art and Design, we instil a sense of awe and wonder when reflecting about every piece of work, celebrating the successes and embracing the opportunities to show resilience when work does not go to plan, developing critique abilities and the right to have their own preferences. By learning about a wide range of artists, children can explore a variety of mediums, developing their creative, practical and technical skills to create imaginative, skillful pieces of artwork. When appropriate, we invite our community links to enhance our Art Curriculum and equip our young artists with the confidence to seek positive transformation in their World and futures.

IMPLEMENTATION

We teach Art and Design in dedicated half-term blocks using a carefully planned curriculum that ensures clear progression of knowledge, understanding and skills. Children explore a wide range of techniques and materials as they study artists, movements and different forms of art. As they move through school, they develop creativity, resilience and confidence to express their own ideas. The curriculum is inclusive and allows all children to flourish and learn together, providing opportunities to know more, understand more and remember more, fully unlocking their potential as young artists.
