Our Church School

Church School

Building on our shared and inclusive Christian values, we will work in unity to unlock the potential of all in our community to enable them to flourish. We will equip all to embrace opportunity and to seek positive transformation in the world.

The vision is underpinned by the bible quote “How good it is when God’s people learn together in unity” Psalm 33.1

St. Barnabas School Barnetby is a Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary, which means that the church and the Christian faith have a high profile in the life of the school. Our Religious Education Policy can be read on our policies page

We are very proud of being part of the Church School family. Our values underpin all that we do and are shared with the whole school community. We have a close relationship with the local church; we take our distinctiveness as a Church School seriously and set great strength by the quality of the relationship within our community.

Y6 pupils attend and take an active part in the Church Schools Festival in the Summer.

We attend Church for services at Harvest, Christmas, Easter, Collective Worship and for Y6 leaving services. We visit local churches to support our RE and PSHE curriculum and local clergy and faith leaders regularly visit our school and we have close links with our Bishop’s visitor all of whom regularly lead collective worship.

Collective Worship

Collective Worship is a time when the whole school, or groups within the school meet together in order to consider and reflect on common concerns, issues and interests. It offers all pupils an opportunity to worship through engaging in relevant, meaningful experiences and provides opportunities for the pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

Collective Acts of Worship are held every day, either for the whole school, or for individual classes. They are based on our church school values which are Forgiveness, Friendship, Peace, Trust, Thankfulness, Hope, Perseverance and Compassion. Moral and social issues are also raised in Collective Worship and there are opportunities for spiritual reflection. Christian hymns, prayers and periods of quiet thought are regularly included.

Our Collective Worship Policy can be read below.

Monday: Choral Worship - a focus on bringing joy through song and singing

Tuesday: Whole School Worship - a focus on a story linked to our Christian Value for the half term

Wednesday: Worldwide Worship - a focus on responsibility, justice, positive transformation and the issues and news stories from around the world

Thursday: Visitor Worship - a chance for children to participate in an act of worship delivered by a visitor

Friday: Family Worship - a chance to celebrate the ways we 'Unlock our Potential'

Unlocking Potential certificates

Each week, children that have reached their potential in their work, by being a good friend, working in unity or just generally being a positive role model in school are awarded an unlocking potential certificate

Christian Values certificates

Each week, children that have demonstrated one or more of our schools Christian Values, are awarded a certificate for their behaviour and kindness around school.

Collective Worship Council

Being a church school is very important to us. The collective worship council meets regularly to talk about how we can improve collective worship for everybody in school.

The collective worship council plan and lead collective worship and Church services, ensure the class reflection areas and church school table are tidy.

The collective worship council also evaluate collective worship so we can improve them. They will regularly seek the views of their classmates.

The worship council monitor the school environment with regard to church school distinctiveness and feedback strengths and areas to develop with all staff.
