Physical Education
INTENT
St Barnabas Federation believes that Physical Education (PE), experienced in a safe and supportive environment will inspire our pupils to lead an active and healthy lifestyle. We intend to deliver high-quality teaching and embrace opportunities that allow all children to succeed in physical education. We also want to encourage our children to learn together in unity, understanding fairness and coping with setbacks thus developing their resilience and embedding life-long values. Our curriculum aims to take children on a journey, learning together with others to unlock their potential.
IMPLEMENTATION
We use Primary Steps in PE as our main approach to the planning of PE. The units taught are progressive over time and allow time for children to develop key skills and allowing them to apply these in a wide range of games and activities.
We teach PE within each class as a solid afternoon block and strongly believe that this approach allows children the best opportunities to allow for skill development and application within a game or activity situation.
Units within the curriculum are non competitive to allow for precision of skills however we do encourage the competitive nature, this is delivered through both inter and intra school sports competitions.
IMPACT
We have been awarded the GOLD ACTIVE SPORTS AWARD for 2024 - 2025. This is a testament to the excellent PE and active opportunities that we provide for our children.
